Mission: Movin' and Groovin', a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church, collects donations of gently-used furniture and delivers it to families moving out of the Foundation for the Homeless/Interfaith Hospitality Network programs into new homes or apartments.

Description: When struggling families come in off the street and ask the Foundation for the Homeless for help, a network of churches, case workers and volunteers swings into action to provide resources the families need to get back on their feet. The FFH together with its major support organization, the Interfaith Hospitality Network, gives them temporary housing, meals, life skills training and other necessities like birth certificates and eyeglasses. When families are ready to move out on their own, they usually have not a single item of furniture. That's when Movin' and Groovin' swings into action. Through solicitations in church newsletters, on our web site and by word-of-mouth, we collect beds, sofas, love seats, dining tables and chairs, recliners, dressers, entertainment centers and book shelves - items too large to be transported by automobile. We also pick up accessories like end tables, coffee tables and night stands. The FFH is the primary agency we serve, but we have provided furniture for families sponsored by others: for example, Caritas of Austin and Partners in Hope.

Needs: Donate gently-used furniture, provide storage space, or volunteer to help with pickups or deliveries. Call Paul Mowry at (512) 422-5608.
